The V Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, has staged one of the most eagerly awaited concerts by film music fans: Stephen Warbeck's first concert in Spain, Oscar Academy Award for "Shakespeare in love" (1998). It will be at the Leal Theater in La Laguna at 21.00.
FIMUCITÉ gives continuity to this week's wide musical offer, with a repertoire from the multi-winning composer, including the World premiere of the scores for "Un balcon sur la mer", "There Be dragons" and "Polisse", Jury Prize in the latest Cannes Festival. Warbeck will perform with his band, formed by the clarinetist and sax Sarah Homer, Dario Rosetti-Bonell (acoustic and electric guitars); Nick Cooper (cello), and Steve Watts, Rob Millett and Paul Clarvis, bass, percussion and drums, respectively.
Warbeck will give a panel today afternoon at 17.00 at Espacio Cultural de CajaCanarias titled "From the British Stage to the Big Screen". After this, at 18.00, the director of Filmoteca Canaria, María Calimano, Miguel Ordóñez, the editor of the web site scoremagacine.com and the professor, critic and editor of the Rosebud magazine, Juan Ángel Sáiz, will launch the festival's official book, "Tócala otra vez, Oscar" (Play It Again, Oscar).
On the other hand, today will be screened "Jason and the Argonauts" at 11.00 for the Bernard Herrmann's season in Espacio Cultural de CajaCanarias. At 19.30 in Tenerife, Espacio de las Artes (TEA), there will be a FIMUCITÉ retrospective, with the screenings of a selected extracts of the concerts given by Clint Mansell & The Sonus Quartet in 2009, at the Leal Theater.
