TENERIFE FILM ORCHESTRA & CHOIR
The Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir (TFO & CHOIR), formed in June 2005, is the first private symphony orchestra in Spain conceived exclusively for recording and performing film soundtracks and music for the audiovisual field. This orchestra, made up of professional musicians and soloists of a very high order, has 85 musicians, and the choir, with Cristina Farrais as choirmaster, has 44 singers.
The solo clarinettist Michael Kirby together with the composer Diego Navarro, who is also the artistic director, created this project.
In January 2007 the TFO & CHOIR recorded the first soundtrack, music written, orchestrated and conducted by Diego Navarro, for the film "Oscar. Una pasión surrealista", directed by Lucas Fernández. JMB Records-Karonte, specialized in music for films, has released this first work.
In July 2007 the TFO & CHOIR performed with great success and critics, both concerts offered in FIMUCITÉ's first edition conducted by Sean Callery (“24”), Don Davis (The Matrix), Angel Illarramendi (Los Borgia) and Navarro, who conducted his own program and Mychael Danna's music. Those two concerts were recorded and filmed live.
At Fimucité’s second edition, prestigious composer and director Joel McNeely, who became the main guest conductor, conducted the Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir. Composers John Frizzel and Fernándo Velázquez among others also conducted the TFO & CHOIR playing some world premières and releases: Ironman, the Orphanage, Spiderman 3, the Reaping, Ironwill or Shadows of the Empire among others. Mark Snow, composer of the very famous TV Series and film X Files, will conduct the TFO & CHOIR at Fimucité’s third edition.
Three of the various recordings from the past editions will have worldwide distribution in international products. The first one is the première of the Suite written by Sean Callery for the award winner TV Series 24; this piece, especially written and arranged for the Fimucité 2007, will be included in the extras menu in the 7th season edited and released by Twentieth Century Fox. The second worldwide edition will be Fimucité 2008 closing concert DVD + CD conducted by Diego Navarro and Joel McNelly, released by prestigious label Varese Sarabande. This is the very first Varese edition of a DVD. The third recording will be the international release of the original soundtrack “Oscar. Una pasión surrealista”.
The Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir is the resident orchestra of the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
