The Choir Master of the Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir promises many “spectacular” moments in the FIMUCITÉ concerts
The marathon of concerts planned by FIMUCITÉ 3, from July 20 to 26, with the sponsorship of Cabildo Insular, will have the exceptional vocal qualities of the chorus members of the Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir, whose Master is Cristina Farrais. The renowned artist, who will conduct 40 professionals during the concerts, considers that due to the “advances in technology and the creation of new choirs, there is an inevitable fusion process”.
A process that began “including classic choirs in present film soundtracks”, and that has shown all the potential of a musical section considered secondary until now, according to Farrais. “This continues this way in the Canary Islands maybe because there are still no professional choirs”, although, in her opinion, “it is undeniable that, accompanied by the choir, the orchestra completes its richness and, both combined, they contribute to increase the sensorial emphasis in the films, mainly in action and horror genres”.
This year’s repertory, according to Farrais, is a little simpler from a technical point of view than in previous editions, “but not in its spectacularity”, because we expect, in pieces like “The Omen” (including in the closing concert conducted by Joel McNeely in Auditorio de Tenerife on Saturday 25), many moments that “will thrill” the audience.
The Choir Master remembers as great moments for her when she sang a capella “Ave María” from Angel Illarramendi’s “Los Borgia” and “The Matrix” concert conducted by its composer, Don Davis, in FIMUCITÉ 1. She says that sometimes it is hard to coordinate the 40 people of the choir, “although that is our great challenge”. “This choir,” she adds, “could be increased into 60 due to the great talents existing in the Canary Islands nowadays”
Cristina Farrais is in love with her work and has always tried to create a friendly atmosphere, together with the support of the TFO & Choir creator, the Director of the Festival, Diego Navarro.
FIMUCITÉ 3 has been possible thanks to the sponsorship of Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna City Councils, as well as to the cooperation of a great number of public and private entities.
