FIMUCITÉ COMES BACK WITH ITS THIRD EDITION DEVOTED TO THE "ALIEN" SAGA

15/06/2009

Fimucité, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival, a pioneering project, celebrates its third edition and becomes an important international event in the film music industry. This year it will be held in July (20-26) and will be devoted to the thrilling science fiction saga “The Alien”.

Fimucité is back thanks to the support of its main sponsor, Cabildo de Tenerife (the island’s Government). The Festival will invite very important film music composers bringing again the best of film music’s magic and art to Tenerife.

Fimucité will offer two symphonic concerts, played by the Tenerife Film Orchestra and Choir, at the Tenerife Auditorium, and will also celebrate Clint Mansell’s concert with his band in La Laguna, UNESCO World Heritage Center.

Another institution that also joins the Festival for the first time is the TEA Museum (Tenerife Space for the Arts), which will hold the composers’ panels and screen the Alien saga, a great chance to watch again such a blockbuster, since this year we celebrate Ridley Scott’s Alien 30th anniversary. Another particular tribute to this acclaimed science fiction film is the Festival’s poster designed by prestigious comic artist Alfonso Azpiri.

Fimucité 3 will pay tribute to the Alien complete saga. The first part of the closing concert, planned for Saturday, July 25th, at the Tenerife Auditorium, will be devoted to Alien with the “Biomechanical Symphony”. Organized with Varese Sarabande, the Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir will play a selection of the very best of each of the saga composers: Goldsmith, Horner, Goldenthal, Frizzel, Tyler.

Fimucité 3 closing concert will also remember Jerry Goldsmith, celebrating the great master’s 80th birthday. Joel McNeely will conduct a wonderful selection of his best works. Goldsmith has inspired generations of composers, therefore the festival together with Filmoteca Canaria will offer a season of films with his soundtracks in movies like Papillon, The Other, Freud, the ballad of Cable Hogue, Capricorn 1 or Chinatown starting June 16th at the Multicines Monopol in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and June 18th at the Renoir in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Fimucité 3 will be honored with the attendance Mark Snow, composer of “The X Files” and Polish composer and Oscar winner Jan Kaczmarek, for “Finding Neverland”, who will also join the panels in TEA, and will bring some of his symphonic works in “War and Peace”, “Quo Vadis” or “City Island”.

Just like last year, the Conservatoire students and future professionals, Banda Sinfónica del Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, conducted by their director Jose Luis Cebolla, will give pre-opening concert at the Conservatorio Superior de Música on July the 2nd.

On the other hand, Fimucité 3 will release a new book, following last year’s tribute to “2001: a Space Odyssey”, about the Alien saga music, Alien, the Biomechanical Symphony, edited by Filmoteca Canaria and Calamar Editions.

Fimucité inaugurates a new space in its web site: the Fimucité Channel in Vimeo. Every year all concerts, are recorded, filmed, and mixed by great professionals and uploaded in Internet. On the other hand, Varese Sarabande will release along 2009 last years closing night gala concert, including Alex North rejected score for 2001 conducted by Diego Navarro. This is the first time this prestigious company releases a CD with a DVD.
