PRODUCER: PEDRO J. MÉRIDA

Pedro Mérida, born in La Laguna, Tenerife, in 1973, is a great entrepreneur who has always joined and created alternative cultural initiatives. Great researcher of new trends in musical activities, Mérida is the father of successful projects such as the International Festival Folk y Raíces (Folk & Roots) turning Tenerife into a very important melting pot of international ethnic music and rhythms for some years.

He started working a freelance journalist and film critic for La Opinion de Tenerife paper 10 years ago, also writing several collaborations with national newspapers and specialized webs, sometimes under a pen name. He is often invited to international film festivals and comic congresses around Spain.

As a writer he has been invited to contribute in editions such as La marca de la momia, together with Spanish artists like Luis Alberto de Cuenca or the famous actor and director Paul Naschy. His work is also included in Cine bizarro Hispano Argentino, entre dos siglos, where he and Argentinian columnist Pablo Conde analyse the connection and differences between making horror and fantastic films in Spain and in South America. This book became such a great success among the fans that is has been presented around Spain and many South American countries.

His willingness and interest in cultural production has led him to participate in several national and international projects. He is the producer of the Tenerife Film Orchestra & Choir, with recordings for JMB or Varese Sarabande, and he is in charge of the production of FIMUCITÉ (Tenerife International Film Music Festival) since its very beginning in 2007. He is also a key maker of the creation of the first European circuit of film music festivals linking Fimucité with its brother festival in Cracow (born in 2008). Mérida also works in the Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico y de Terror de Estepona, in Málaga (Estepona International Fantastic and Horror film Week) as a Coordinator of the Program and Public Relations. This Week has become one of the most interesting events relating the fantastic and horror genre in Spain.
