CHOIR MASTER: CRISTINA FARRAIS

Born in Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife, starts studying music at the age of 4 and enters the Santa Cruz Conservatoire (CSM) at 9 to study piano.
She begins her singing studies in 1991 with Pilar Castro Palazón, continuing at the CSM graduating with Professor Isabel García Soto. At the same time Farrais goes on with her piano career.
She has attended several choir conducting and classical vocal techniques master classes given by opera singers such as Joan Ferrer, Maria Orán, Jerzy Artysz y Vera Mamlev.
Farrais belonged to choirs like Coro Polifónico, la Coral Universitaria, el Cantata Nova, el Coro de la ópera del Auditorio de Tenerife and has also collaborated with the chamber choir Cámara de Sta. Cruz de Tenerife.
As a Soloist in the Festival de Zarzuela de Tenerife since 2001, she has sang in the following zarzuelas (Spanish light Opera) “La rosa del azafrán”, “El bateo”, “Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente”, “El barbero de Sevilla”, “Gigantes y Cabezudos”, “Los Gavilanes”, “Katiuska”, “La revoltosa”, “La viuda alegre”, “El huésped del sevillano”, “La tempranica”, “Doña Francisquita”, “Madrid es Chueca”, “La gran vía”, “La parranda”, “Los claveles”, “La corte del faraón”, “Molinos de viento”, “El huésped del sevillano”, “La chulapona”and “15 años de Zarzuela”.
She has sung in premières from Spanish composers like Diego Navarro or international composers like Milena Perisik. Her repertoire also includes Schubert and Mozart masses, Bach cantatas and several Monteverdi’s pieces. Her great passion for music has led her to go deeper into other styles besides opera and classical such as jazzin’ and pop music.
Farrais has participated in “Canarias es música” project supported by Tijarafe’s City Hall, together with other soloist like Mari Carmen Mulet, Mariví Cabo, Chago Melián and Luis Morera among others.
She has taught singing, piano and choral singing at the “Escuela Municipal de Música y Danza” in Valle Gran Rey, la Gomera, and the “Aula de Música y Danza” in Tijarafe and Puntagorda in La Palma.
Farrais is a professional singer and teacher. Besides she is the Choir Master of the “Tenerife Film Choir” that belongs to the “Tenerife Film Orchestra” directed by Diego Navarro, the first private symphony orchestra in Spain conceived and devoted exclusively for recording and performing film soundtracks and music for the audiovisual field. This orchestra has recorded the film soundtrack “Oscar. El color del destino”, international co-production and is the official orchestra of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival, FIMUCITÉ, about to celebrate its 3rd edition.
